Applications of National Priority
NGTEN emphasizes the twelve applications of national priority identified by NASA Science Mission Directorate's Applied Sciences Program to expand and accelerate the use of knowledge, science, and technologies resulting from the NASA goal of improving predictions in the areas of weather, climate, and natural hazards. NGTEN also works to put geospatial technology to use in support of the USDA-CSREES National Emphasis Areas, and the NOAA areas of national and global importance.
NASA Applications of National Importance
NASA's Applied Science Program focuses on applications of national priority to expand and accelerate the use of knowledge, science, and technologies resulting from the NASA goal of improving predictions in the areas of weather, climate, and natural hazards.
- Agricultural Efficiency
- Air Quality
- Aviation
- Carbon Management
- Coastal Management
- Disaster Management
- Ecological Forecasting
- Energy Management
- Homeland Security
- Invasive Species
- Public Health
- Water Management
The outcomes are manifest in enhanced decision support and the impacts are projected to be manifest in significant socio-economic benefits for each of the national applications. NASA has identified twelve (12) national applications with partner federal agencies and national organizations that can be served by the results of NASA aerospace research and development of science and technologies through integrated system solutions.
NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center (Fritz Policelli) has developed a powerful database to organize and navigate through the Earth-Sun Science System Components associated with these twelve application areas. These components can be visualized as a chart organized by the earth observation sources (the satellite sensors), geosphysical parameters, models and analysis systems, model outputs/predictions, and decision support tools.
