Using Geospatial Tools to Support Watershed Restoration in Virginia
The 2000 Chesapeake Bay Agreement calls for every child
in the Bay watershed to have a meaningful Bay experience by
2005, and for the restoration of 10,000 river miles by 2010.
Outcomes and Impacts
- 54 teachers from 34 high schools and 22 agency personnel have attended at least two days of workshops
- Geospatial data has been obtained for 65 high schools and placed on a collaborative website
- The overall knowledge gain on issues associated with watersheds, land-use and its effect on water quality increased 23% in one year.
- Students have planted 16,000 hardwood seedlings in targeted watersheds in two years.
