Photo2GPS is a simple freeware program developed by the University of Connecticut that allows you to synchronize digital photos to a track line recorded with a Garmin GPS receiver
Output from the program includes:
1) data that can be converted to a GIS shapefile that references associated digital pictures, and
2) a KML file that displays your track and picture locations in Google Earth
More help on usage can be found in the University of Connecticut's GPS training manual. Information regarding Photo2GPS begins on page 101 of the manual.
Trimble Mission Planning Software
http://www.trimble.com/planningsoftware_ts.asp?Nav=Collection-8425
In order to optimize GPS field data collection for the best conditions and satellite constellation configuration, Trimble has created a free mission planning tool. Planning is a powerful stand-alone software tool supporting any form of analysis of visibility for GPS, GLONASS, IGSO and WAAS geostationary satellites. You will require the latest ephemeris file (describing the orbit of all GPS satellites, satellite clock offsets, and atmospheric delay parameters) to complete your mission planning. The file, which is called current.ssf can be downloaded from Trimble's GPS Data Resources website. Choose Almanac > Import > SSF... and browse to where you have placed today's "current.ssf" file.
Note: the current ephemeris file is on an ftp server: ftp://ftp.trimble.com/pub/eph
